"In Israel -The land of miracles - you can ride everyday, from the cool Northern forests of the Galilee,
to the blazing Red Sea desert of Eilat in the South.
This country has great riding opportunities., I had one of my “top ten” rides in Solomon canyon near Eilat",
says Joey Klien, international expert for planning, building and maintaining bike trails,
who participated in one of Israel's biking events in 2005 .
Israel joins the world wide momentum of cycling. Informal estimates count about 100,000 on-road and off-road
cyclists in Israel. Of these, only about 1,700 cyclists participate regularly in formal competitive events;
a small percentage are commuters and the rest ride for fun, exploring the nature of the holy land on side-roads and
off -road trails.
Israel's wonderful climate is conducive to year-round cycling.
From early in the morning, commuters and joggers mix with dozens of cyclists who pedal the bicycle trail through
Tel Aviv's HaYarkon Park. at the "Bird Head" grove. For a spiritual boost, cyclists take in the cool crisp air
around the Jerusalem Mountains, stopping to admire one of the ancient monasteries. Blend agriculture and
industry as you cycle alongside the vineyards of the country's top wineries.
The cycling activities in Israel are being monitored by 3 main bodies: The Israel Cycling Federation,
the Jewish National Fund (JNF - KKL) and the Israel Nature and Parks Authority.
"Israel is rapidly evolving with biking centers, cycling events to choose from almost every month,
and the possibility to cross the country on with the Israel Bike Trail. The fact the cyclists can ride in such
wonderful weather all year round, enjoy a really interesting trail full with history, heritage,
religious and archeological sites, participate in bird-watching, and finish the day in a winery or an olive
pressing site makes Israel one of the most fascinating places on the globe for cyclists",
says Terry Riedman from International Travel and Congresses Travel Agency, supplier of services for the two-wheel
tourist to Israel.
